Barely three editions old, The Purple Fest has been a shot in the arm for the Chennai alternative music scene. The latest edition, featuring electro rockers The F16’s drew a packed crowd, the largest that the fortnightly music series has seen until date according to Rohan Sen, presenter and music manager at radio channel Chennai Live, which is organizing the event. Added The F16’s keyboardist Harshan Radhakrishnan, “It’s the best gig we’ve played in Chennai.” The band debuted three tracks including “I Hate Early Mornings” and “Farfisa, Where Are You,” besides an as-yet-untitled song at the show. Their high-energy set (thankfully no loose cable or stage accidents followed) was rounded off by a reggae-dubstep track (“Little Forest Cry”) that got the crowd going. “We got an encore and ended up playing another song. It’s really great to see the Chennai crowd and musicians come up and support us,” Radhakrishnan added.
